Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn

MN State Representative District 48B
DFL

I’m Carlie and I’m running to represent you, neighbors and friends in Eden Prairie, in our Minnesota House of Representatives.

For seven years, my husband Rory and I have been building our life in District 48B alongside so many of you. I love living in Eden Prairie, especially our great schools and green spaces. In fact, I spend a lot of time walking with our rescue dog, Silas, around Homeward Hills Park. I try to wave at you as you drive by, and many of you actually wave back! I strive to create a sense of community where we know our neighbors and can sit down and discuss what’s important to us and our future as individuals, as a district, and as a state.

I grew up in a union household in Sheboygan, Wisconsin – the bratwurst capitol of the United States – and came to Minnesota to study Entrepreneurship and Spanish at the University of Saint Thomas. Rory and I met there and after graduation, we quickly decided that we wanted to spend our lives together in the southwest metro. We live, work, and play in and around Eden Prairie and look forward to our children attending Eden Prairie Public Schools and participating in community activities. We are members of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Edina and I serve on the parish Outreach Committee.

My professional background is in operations and management in both the public and private sectors: in education, non-profit and the IT industry. I’m passionate and I am a problem solver. I will put my experience to work for you when I represent our district in Saint Paul.

Issues

Education

Minnesota children deserve a world-class education. From head-start and early pre-K through an affordable college experience, quality education must be accessible and affordable. This includes technical and vocational training for young adults as well as expanding the four-year-old kindergarten program to Eden Prairie.

Economy

Small business, sound infrastructure, and a livable minimum wage will drive our economy forward. We must invest in these priorities together to ensure small business owners have the means to provide a livable wage to their valuable employees. Building better infrastructure around our transit system will create more jobs and provide workers and residents reliable transit options.

Equality

Minnesota is for everyone, equally. In our community, we look after one another. We should not deny our neighbors access to affordable healthcare, equal pay for equal work, and an environment free from discrimination. Together, we will champion policies that bring Minnesotans together.
