Thank You, Woodbury.
Serving as your state representative for the past four years has been one of the greatest honors of my life. While I came up short on Election Day, I am incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished together over the past several years including meaningful middle-class tax relief, lowering health care costs, investing in our state’s roads and bridges, and putting more money in every classroom.
For Woodbury, I was proud to champion measures to protect our water and ensure local control of the $850 million 3M settlement, increase safety and make improvements at the I-494/694/94 interchange, keep kids safe from lead in school drinking water, reform step therapy to protect patients, and help bring more great teachers into the classroom.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your conversations, ideas and support over the past four years.
To my opponent, Representative-elect Steve Sandell, please know that you are fortunate to represent the best city in our entire state, and I wish you the best as you begin your fight for the people and priorities of our community.
It has been a true privilege to be a voice for Woodbury, a city I am proud to call home, and I want to thank you all.
-Representative Kelly Fenton
###
Woodbury is a one-of-a-kind community with great schools, hardworking families, and strong small businesses. My husband and I are proud to have raised our three children here. I’m running to represent our community in the Minnesota House of Representatives to protect our quality of life and give residents of Woodbury a voice for efficient, effective government at the Capitol.
As a former public school teacher, I had the privilege to see firsthand how our young people grow and thrive when they have the best tools. In the legislature, I’ll put our children first and support policies where they can work hard, play by the rules, and succeed now and in the future.
Kelly has dedicated many years to serving her community, including:
• Former Deputy Chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota
• Current Board Member (2009 – Present) and Past President of Minnesota Excellence in Public Service, a nine-month series, leadership and political training institute for women
• Member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (1998-Present), an organization focused on providing scholarships for women’s education
• Board Member and Director of Tournaments (2006-2010) of the Woodbury Athletic Association and Traveling Baseball program
• Sustainer and Active Member (1993-Present) of the Junior League of St. Paul
• Confirmation Catechist at St. Ambrose of Woodbury Catholic Community
I look forward to working with you to create opportunities for all Minnesota families.
Sincerely,
Kelly Fenton
Issues
Jobs/Economy
Minnesota has a high quality work force, a strong work ethic, and a rich culture of innovation and hard work. We can build on these strengths to grow healthy Minnesota families.
As your voice in St. Paul, my goal will be to move our economy forward by promoting legislation aimed at keeping jobs in our state while encouraging others to expand in Minnesota. Building a healthy economy starts with reversing the trend of job-killing taxes, reducing government red tape and unnecessary regulations that burden our job creators.
Fiscal Accountability
Your family lives within its financial means and so should your government. I will work steadfastly to ensure that government services are provided efficiently and that dollars are spent wisely. Fiscal restraint and effective, smart government are complementary to each other and I will work on your behalf to promote both in St. Paul.
To reduce wasteful spending that drives up costs, I believe we need to be serious about eliminating fraud and abuse as officials in St. Paul spend your tax dollars.
Healthcare
Minnesotans deserve high-quality healthcare at an affordable rate. Last session, I proudly supported major reforms that are already getting results — individual insurance market premiums are expected to drop across the board, and Minnesotans will have access to more health insurance options. There’s still more work to do — I will continue fighting for solutions that bring down costs, expand choice, and ensure that Minnesota is a nationwide leader in affordable, quality health care.
Transportation
Minnesota needs a transportation system that gets you and your family where you need to be quickly and safely. I was proud to support a record-setting transportation infrastructure package last session that will invest nearly billions in roads and bridges over the next decade—without a tax increase. I will continue to work to relieve congestion and ensure we are improving and taking care of our transportation infrastructure in a cost-effective way that protects your tax dollars.
Education
Strong schools are an essential part of creating healthy communities and a strong economy. As a former educator, I know how important it is that kids in every classroom get a great education — that’s why I’ve supported major investments in our schools and reforms that will help improve learning for Minnesota kids.
