Everyone who has been paying attention knows that two polar opposite approaches have developed for what direction Minnesota will go in the future–and in my core I know one is right and one is wrong.
One approach will reinstill freedom and choice as the main tenant for Minnesota families, and one will shift yet even more control and power to government. One approach will let every Minnesotan keep as much as humanly possible of their own money, and one will take more money to further feed a government plagued with indifference, incompetence, fraud and corruption.
These two visions are on a collision course in 2018, and the stakes and impact of this clash are high. I’m running for governor because one vision is worth fighting against, and more importantly–one is worth fighting for.
What Democrats have been doing to the state of Minnesota has been devastating to average Minnesotans. The belief that government knows best how to spend our money and live our lives has led to skyrocketing insurance premiums, more traffic congestion, stagnant wages, and Minnesota’s own swamp of corruption. Enough is enough.
Like many Minnesotans, I learned the value of hard work from my parents. I was born and raised in Detroit Lakes. My wife Sondi and I have two teenage sons. My vision for the state of Minnesota is one where the middle-class can become rich and the poor can become the middle class and where every child in the state has access to a good school. Fundamentally, I believe that the key to a stronger more prosperous Minnesota is taking power away from government and giving it back to the people.
We will create an attitude in government that says, “we’re here to serve you, not control and punish you.” And if any government employee can’t get on board with this attitude, they will be looking for a new job. Bottom line: we’re going to help Minnesotans keep more of what they earn, make their own decisions about their families and businesses, and give them control over their own destinies.
I’m driven in this campaign by a simple truth: There hasn’t been a single day in our state’s history where our greatness came from our government. What makes Minnesota great are the everyday heroes who work long hours, pay their taxes, raise their kids right, and volunteer their precious time to help others. When the people have the power again in this state, people will thrive and amazing things will happen.
I’m asking every Minnesotan to join me in the fight to return power, opportunity, and freedom back to the people of this great state.
